OLC New year update
Friends and family,
It is hard to believe that it’s been four months since we officially launched One Life Community! As I am sure it has been for you to a certain extent, these past four months have been a whirlwind, filled with lots of uncertainty and a desire for some calm in the midst of the chaos. However, despite all that 2020 brought us, we can truly say that we have seen and experienced the goodness of God over and over.
Before we say anything else, we want to humbly thank each of you who have prayed, shared encouragement, given financially, helped us acquire practical needs, and stayed tuned in with the journey we’ve been on. We are truly grateful for your support and the love you have shown as we link arms in watching God build His church and expand His kingdom.
Four months ago we planted One Life Community (OLC) in the Reunion community just north of Denver. Despite a difficult few weeks leading up to our official church launch, we sensed God pushing us to step out in faith and trust Him with our circumstances. Needless to say, on September 13th we had our first celebration service and baptism! That was an amazing day and one we will never forget! In the weeks and months following that day, we have watched God continue to build OLC despite the complexities of this pandemic. We have witnessed God’s provision in truly incredible ways, and we have watched Him grow our church community during these first months. We have seen individuals within OLC sell their homes in other areas of the city and move into Reunion to be closer to the community. We have had the privilege of serving hurting families in different ways throughout the holiday season. We have also watched God restore hope in people’s lives and experience community the way He intended. One individual recently told me, “I’ve never been apart of a community like One Life before and it’s really restoring my hope for how the body of Christ can be.” This is just one of many statements in which we have heard and continue to hear God at work in the members of OLC. All this to say, we are thrilled at what God is doing and we can’t wait to witness what He has ahead for us in 2021.
One of the things we have learned over the course of these past months is how necessary it is to demonstrate radical love and relentless unity as the body of Christ in our world. In the face of persecution, illness, outside pressure and more, the New Testament authors constantly call the church toward a love for one another that defies logic. In fact, Jesus goes so far as to convey the reality that the believability of our message is even rooted in our relationships with one another before a watching world. Francis Schaeffer (the great philosopher and theologian) echoes this when he said, “Our relationship with each other is the criterion the world uses to judge whether our message is truthful - Christian community is the final apologetic.” Right now, divisive messaging is everywhere, fear is constantly being sown, distrust of others is higher than ever, and everyone has an opinion. But this isn’t just in the world outside us – it is widely perpetuated within the Church and among Christians across just about every social media platform. But how can we say we possess anything transformative when we reflect the same amount of division and chaos around us? We are not exempt from this possibility at OLC, but we are continually being challenged to take Jesus at His word and honestly live in a way that causes wonder in others and brings hope to those around us. Please pray for us as we seek to call one another and this world to Christ in the midst of a very broken and confusing time.
Finally, as we begin a new chapter in the life of OLC, our hearts are heavy with a desire to engage new people and see God expand our reach throughout this community and beyond. As we move forward, we want to invite you to consider partnering with us in the following ways:
- Pray: We invite you to please pray for OLC. We long to walk in wisdom, cultivate loving community, and live as Biblical neighbors to those around us.
- Give: We invite you to give financially to OLC as we seek the Lord to meet our practical needs. We appreciate any one time or recurring gifts and this can be set up on our website at www.onelifereunion.com. If you are interested in helping us purchase a few practical things, please contact email@example.com.
- Join: We invite you to consider joining us and becoming part of the OLC family.
Thank you for joining with us in this incredible mission. We love each of you and could not be more grateful for your support.
Grant and Leah Ryder
