Church Planting in a Pandemic?

Hi friends and family,

We are excited to connect with you and share how God is working and leading us as we prepare to plant a church in the Reunion community of Northeast Denver. As you know, our world is looking a little different these days amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the various shutdowns that have occurred within the past few months across our country. In light of this, it has been difficult not to imagine how all of this chaos could affect the church as we know it, let alone our timeline for planting a new church. Despite the fact that uncertainty seems to be an unavoidable reality these days, we are encouraged by what seems to be an incredible time and opportunity to be the body of Christ in a world that desperately needs hope. As people everywhere wrestle with fear, seek answers to difficult questions, and begin to navigate the path back to “normal” life again, we believe God is saying that the time is now to plant a new church. As daunting as this is, we are excited to follow God in faith that He will build His church and bring many people to faith in Jesus.

As we move forward on this path and seek the Lord, we are invested in a number of areas in preparation for planting this new church. We are currently working through a five-month church plant training course with Converge called Multiply. This has been a valuable experience in which we have both learned so much. This training has been very helpful in giving us an intentional context to process the many important and challenging elements involved in church planting. We are grateful to Converge for the training, equipping, and coaching that has come through this class so far.

We are also meeting regularly with a team of individuals who are excited to plant this church with us. We call this group our “core team” as we meet together every other week for prayer, discussion, and planning in pursuit of this mission God has set before us. We currently have about 20 people on our core team and we are praying that God will continue to add to our group!

Looking ahead, we feel it is important to share with you the timeline that we believe God has set before us and laid on our hearts. We believe that God is leading us to launch this new church in September of 2020! This is a daunting endeavor, but we are trusting God and truly believe that He will go with us in every step and provide for every need to the praise of His glory. With this faith goal in mind, we will utilize this summer to continue building our core team, clarify our church vision, raise financial support, and work together with our sending church (Stapleton Church).

As far as family life goes, things never seem to slow down! The last month we had the privilege of hosting Grant’s brother and family during the stay at home quarantine. This was a special time and was so great to re-connect! As that time has now come to a close, we have worked hard at getting back into an organized schedule in order to continue working on church plant details along with Grant’s pastoral role at Stapleton Church. We continue to meet with our Stapleton community group and are so thankful to be able to do so in person again! Leah is staying busy with our girls (Rae and Eliyanah) and she is also leading a book study with some women from our church. Our girls are growing fast and loved the month they got to spend with their cousins. Our girls truly are a joy to our lives and a gift from God, we thank God for them every day!

Thank you for staying engaged with our family as we seek the Lord and follow His lead in our lives. As we move forward, we want to invite you to please pray with us over the following areas:

  • That we would be faithful to listen to God’s voice and what He desires His church to look like in this unique context of Reunion / Green Valley Ranch.

  • That our core team would continue to grow in unity, fellowship, and number throughout this summer as we look toward September.

  • That God would use our group to begin reaching our community now and seeing people come to faith in Jesus.

  • That God would provide a permanent home for our family in the Reunion area.

  • That God would raise up fervent prayer partners and generous financial partners for our family and church.

We also want to invite you to please pray about partnering with us in the ways listed below. If God is leading you to partner with us in any of these ways, please email us at

  • We long for over 100 people to commit to consistently praying for this church plant.

  • We want to invite you to consider coming with us, joining our Core Team and helping to plant this church.

  • We are hoping to raise monthly financial support for the next 2-3 years to sustain our family as we fully engage and invest in this church plant.

  • We are asking God to provide a home for our family near the Reunion community.

  • We are looking for an affordable meeting place for our church gatherings and the right equipment for our services.

As we get more into the process of this church plant we want to do a better job at updating you on what's going on! keep your eye out for our updates as we plan to send them out more often! Also, look for us on Instagram (Ryderfam4) and Facebook (As a family we go group).

We truly love each of you and are so thankful for you! Love,

Grant, Leah, Rae, and Eliyanah
